You are not alone
If you’re reading this, you’re one of millions.
Opioid use disorder (OUD) in older adults has been quietly growing for more than a decade. Most people who develop it were following a doctor’s prescription. Almost none of them are getting help.
3x
OUD in older Medicare beneficiaries more than tripled from 2013 to 2018.
This isn’t a rare story. It’s one of the fastest-growing health issues in your age group.
2x
Adults over 50 are more than twice as likely to stay in treatment long-term vs. under-40s.
Coming to this now, at your age, is not a disadvantage. The research says the opposite.
1.9M
Medicare beneficiaries live with opioid use disorder.
That’s more than the population of Phoenix. You are far from alone.
< 1 in 5
Medicare beneficiaries with OUD get medication to treat it.
Not because they don’t want help, but because nobody told them help exists and is covered.
How it works
Three simple steps. No one is going to pressure you.
1. Tell us a little about yourself
A short form or a phone call. No long intake, and no confusing medical jargon. We listen first.
- 5 Minutes
2. Meet your clinician by video
A licensed provider specializing in addiction—Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner—meets with you to understand your history and build a plan together.
- Usually within 2 days
3. Start a treatment plan made for you
Including FDA-approved medication (if appropriate), group support, and ongoing care, at your pace.
- Same-week
Medicare & Insurance
Is this covered?
Short answer: In most of the states we serve, yes. Original Medicare and many Medicare Advantage plans cover the services Workit provides.
We’ll check your specific plan before your first appointment, and we’ll tell you what (if anything) you’ll owe—in writing—before we move forward.
Check my coverage
We can do a coverage check within the Workit Health app before you attend any appointments.
- Tell us your plan and we’ll verify it for free, no commitment.
- We’ll show you what’s covered and what isn’t, in plain language.
- No surprise bills. If we can’t help, we’ll say so and point you somewhere that can.

Frequently asked
Common questions, honest answers.
Still deciding? Here are the things most people ask before they sign up.
Am I too old for this?
No. In fact, the research is clear. Adults 50 and older tend to do better in treatment than younger adults. They’re more likely to stay engaged and more likely to see lasting results.
Do I have to stop my pain medication cold turkey?
No. Your clinician will work with you on a plan that’s safe for your body. That may mean a gradual change rather than a sudden stop.
Will my regular doctor find out?
Not unless you want them to. We coordinate with your other providers only with your permission.
What if I don’t know how to do video calls?
That’s okay. We’ll walk you through it the first time, and additional times if needed.
Will I have to go somewhere in person?
No. Medicare currently covers opioid use disorder care by telehealth from your home.
How much will I pay?
We’ll verify your plan for free and show you your expected costs in writing before your first appointment. No surprises.
What medication will I take?
For opioid use disorder, most members are prescribed buprenorphine/naloxone (often called Suboxone), an FDA-approved medication that you dissolve under your tongue to relieve cravings and withdrawal. Your provider will decide what’s right for you.
Is this for alcohol too?
Yes. Workit Health also treats alcohol use disorder with telehealth care that includes FDA-approved medication when appropriate.
Can my daughter (or son, or spouse) be on the call with me?
Absolutely, with your permission. Many of our members like to have someone they trust sitting in for the first appointment.
What if I’ve tried to quit before?
You’re not starting from zero. Every time you’ve tried, you’ve learned something about what works for you. We’ll build on that.
