Workit Health vs. In-Person Rehab

Rehab

Accessability

Receive care through our app from anywhere in your state—no need to travel, take PTO, or arrange childcare. Our 100% online treatment makes evidence-based addiction care available to individuals in rural communities, cities without public transportation, and places with few in-person rehabs and providers.

Cost

Workit Health's programs are about 1/10th the cost of residential rehab (made possible by the fact that our virtual program doesn't include expenses like housing, food, or facility maintenance).

Round-the-clock supervised care

Residential treatment provides supervised care day and night. This can be important when a person needs medical stabilization or is experiencing intense withdrawal symptoms. Workit Health's online treatment programs cannot provide this level of care.

Harm reduction-based

Workit Health is grounded in harm reduction. We support all recovery goals and celebrate safer steps forward. That's why we offer medication and why we don't punish or remove people who go off course or test positive for substances.

While there are harm-reduction-based rehabs and detox programs, it is also common for these programs to encourage and enforce total abstinence after a rapid taper, which can increase likelihood of overdose.

Medication

Study after study illustrates that people who take medication for alcohol or opioid use disorder increase their likelihood of long-term recovery and lower their risk of overdose. That’s why the medical community and governmental agencies endorse medication-assisted treatment (MAT). Workit Health providers can and do prescribe medications like Suboxone (buprenorphine/naloxone) and naltrexone as appropriate to support recovery.

Some residential programs do include MAT, but many do not. And of those that do, it is common for medication to be used only as a short-term detox aid, rather than as a part of a stable recovery program.

Free at-home drug screening

Urine drug screens are an important tool in treating opioid use disorder, helping your care team to confirm that you're taking your medication correctly and to better understand your health needs. At Workit Health, drug screens are mailed discreetly to your home, and you complete them every month through our unique Video Drug Screening and Automated Drug Screening options.

At residential treatment programs, there will be more in-person oversight of your drug screens, which can feel invasice at times.

Peer support and connection

Connecting with others who are also in recovery has been shown to increase the likelihood of staying in recovery. At Workit Health, members build relationships in group follow-up appointments, recovery groups, and online communities. In residential treatment, people often bond with others in their cohort, and with people they meet in mutual support meetings.

Prompt access to care

Workit Health often has shorter wait times for appointments, and same-week appointments are often available. This helps individuals start treatment sooner, rather than waiting for an inpatient bed.

Flexibility in scheduling

Workit Health members can schedule appointments and join online recovery groups at times that fit their daily lives (rather than adhering to a facility’s strict schedule).

Science- and evidence-based treatment

Science- and evidence-based treatment refers to treatment that is supported by research. This includes several kinds of therapuetic interventions as well as medication-assisted treatment (MAT) and assessments.

A 2020 analysis of national providers found that half or fewer facilities offered medications for opioid use disorder or perform mental health assessments.

Workit Health's programs include MAT and regular assessments, as well as behavioral health support (in group appointments, recovery groups, and courses) that incorporates cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and family systems therapy, all of which are backed by extensive research.

Recovery at home, built into your daily life

Unlike inpatient rehab, Workit Health promotes long-term recovery by allowing individuals to receive treatment while remaining engaged with family, work, and other responsibilities.

In a 2020 study of people seeking treatment for opioid use disorder, only medication-assisted treatment with buprenorphine or methadone resulted in significantly reduced risk of relapse. Inpatient care had no significant effect on this outcome.

Ease withdrawals

FDA-approved medications can keep you comfortable when you stop using or drinking and increase your likelihood of recovery. Workit Health providers can prescribe and recommend options to ease withdrawal symptoms. Many inpatient treatment facilities do offer these treatment options, but others do not.

Separation from a difficult environment

For some people, recovery is difficult when surrounded by the same people, situations, and triggers that they're used to. Residential treatment provides a separation from these elements, that can make it easier to get a start on recovery. Because Workit Health is an online, app-based program, it does not provide that kind of separation.

An important step towards your recovery

Making a decision to get help is difficult, and any steps you take toward recovery are important. Take the path that feels right for you!

Read more about Suboxone risks and concerns

Suboxone (buprenorphine/naloxone) is indicated for the treatment of opioid dependence in adults. Suboxone should not be taken by individuals who have been shown to be hypersensitive to buprenorphine or naloxone as serious adverse reactions, including anaphylactic shock, have been reported. Taking Suboxone (buprenorphine/naloxone) with other opioid medicines, benzodiazepines, alcohol, or other central nervous system depressants can cause breathing problems that can lead to coma and death. Other side effects may include headaches, nausea, vomiting, constipation, insomnia, pain, increased sweating, sleepiness, dizziness, coordination problems, physical dependence or abuse, and liver problems. For more information about Suboxone (buprenorphine/naloxone) see Suboxone.com, the full Prescribing Information, and Medication Guide, or talk to your healthcare provider. You are encouraged to report negative side effects of drugs to the FDA. Visit www.fda.gov/medwatch or call 1-800-FDA-1088.
